A large Danish pharmaceutical company is currently in the process of building a large factory for production of a particular medicinal brand. Throughout the project, LBP Engineering has functioned as building owner consultants. This has entailed responsibility for black utility and facility management as well as the upkeeping of good security measures and a healthy work environment on and around the construction site. Along with other consultants, LBP has also contributed to the tender and conceptual design which future construction phases build upon.
It is a precondition for the project that the new pharmaceutical production facility can be built without it affecting the day-to-day work on the client’s existing productions facilities on the same address. To ensure this and in order to stay within the planned time schedule, a smooth and agile cooperation between the various parties on the construction site is required.
“A task like this is about prioritizing more than anything. What’s the most important thing to do next? Can it wait? What is the right sequence? This is something that we at LBP Engineering are highly skilled in. Just in the last 10 years I have been involved in the building of a handful of factories in the same price range as this project. That is not something we expect from our clients who perhaps do something like this once every 10 years. It also means that we are able to foresee the complications which may arise well in advance,” explains LBP chief project manager, Lars Bøgelund Jørgensen.
LBP’s vast experience has enabled the project team to organize work on the construction site so that it does not affect daily operations more than is absolutely necessary. To do this, project management need to finetune their coordination skills, for example regarding the handling of polluted soil or the restructuring of existing piping to make room for the new plant. It also requires everyone involved to be in conformity with the direction they are working in.
